Things to Know

Some things to remember when traveling to the mountains:

  • Tips for prepping for and adjusting to high altitude: arrive a little early and acclimate to being at higher elevation if possible. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and electrolyts, limit strenuous activity, eat well, get enough sleep, and try to avoid too much alcohol and caffeine on the first day of being at high altitude. If you have suffered from serious altitude sickness before, you can discuss medication like acetazolamide if necessary with your doctor.

  • The temperature can drop into the low-50s after the sun goes down in the mountains, so pack some extra layers for the evening and the early mornings.

  • Weather can be variable in the mountains, especially middle of summer in Colorado due to monsoonal weather patterns. Consider the chance of rain while you pack. Most hotels and resorts may have complimentary umbrellas if needed.

  • Visit Telluride’s website to learn more about the abundant summer activities.
